The Erdinger Dunkel beer is within the fourth group I described in the first post of the blog: the Weissbier. This German wheat beer has a dark-brown colour, hence the name "Dunkel" which means dark in German, characteristic of the dark roasted malts giving this beer a full-bodied flavour. Now, let's talk about what I found on my first time trying this beer!

Even though it has this dark colour the taste is pretty different from a Stout beer - what I was expecting to be due to the colour - that for me the mouthfeel is heavier and creamier. In this case, I didn't feel the same but a light velvety texture, this lager brings a strong, refreshing and somewhat spicy flavour, Hallertau aroma hops, along with hints of nuts, caramel and bread that could be detected by my taste buds.
The ingredients are water, wheat malt, barley malt, hops, yeast and roasted malt. Every 100 ml contains an average of 5,3% alcohol volume that is lighter than other beers of the same style, which makes this beer more refreshing.
Because I still don't have all the specific glasses I want to have, I didn't try the beer in the glass that is usually served in bars and restaurants, but I chose a transparent one to accurately demonstrate its colour, and of course, I needed to show you my Oktoberfest mug from the brand so here it is:
Despite the colour and very characteristic taste, this is a lighter beer within its style, so if you are thinking of entering into the dark beer world, but still not the biggest fan of the strong taste, this is definitely a place to start getting used to it.
Please let me know your opinion when you try it and see you in the next post!
Cheers!
